This week, I spent the last amazing days with my fellow CEMS interns (pictured above), concluding with intern research presentations and a send-off brunch celebration. After 9 weeks of excursions from kayak trips to Red Sox games, we’ll all be leaving to go our separate ways across the world. I’ve loved all of our time together, from these big adventures to our morning chats in the conference room or our lunchtime conversations in the dining hall. Some will be returning to Turkey or the Netherlands or Hawaii, but however difficult the end of our journey may be, I’m excited to keep in contact with these inspiring people.
Even in my final week, I continued to learn new skills and procedures. I spent the majority of my time preparing patient monocyte and serum samples for laboratory testing at a separate facility, which will send back proteomic and metabolomic data. The proteomic data will then be correlated with MDW and the metabolomic data will be used to determine which metabolic pathway the LPS is affecting within the cells. We expect the lab to take about a month to generate these results.
Thank you to all of my new CEMS friends for the once-in-a-lifetime moments shared these past months! Looking back on this summer, the moments I’ll remember will be our shared hallway jokes and post-work Boston adventures. Best of luck in your future endeavors, wherever you may go.
